Šetnja Bečom / A Walk Through Vienna

Krenuvši sa same obale Dunava, Schwedenplatz-a, ka srcu grada, brzo sam ugledala visoki torenj Katedrale Sv. Stefana (Stephansdom).

Svežina i odmor prijaju.

Oduševljava me opuštenost ljudi u parku.

Nastavljam pravo sve do kraja ulice i onda još malo sve do Leonardo Hotela gde sam odsela.

A Walk Through Vienna

The first step I made in Vienna was in front of the beautiful iron gate of baroque Belvedere palace, which left me breathless instantly. Turquoise roof reflected in a pond in front of the palace, and the rows of tall green trees framed the path that led to a beautiful French style garden, with white Nymphs and goddesses statues and beautiful

cascading fountains, which ended with a small garden in front of the lower palace and Orangery.

The very center of Vienna is framed with two rings, which, to my delight, made my getting around the city easier. I start my walk from the bank of the Danube, from Schwedenplatz, towards the heart of the city and very quickly I’m able to see the high tower of the St. Stefan Cathedral (Stephansdom). There are carriages in the square, so if you want to, you can take a ride downtown in style.

The downtown, which consists of several streets, is abundant of shops of famous international fashion brands, and it is really hard to concentrate on the direction. After a short sightseeing and shopping, I find the refreshment on the street stands: a glass of fresh and cool sliced fruit.

The street guides me to Albertina, a palace-museum of modern art, where you can see the lavishly decorated rooms of Habsburg Dynasty, at the same time enjoying the works of Michelangelo, Dürer, Bruegel, Monet, Picasso, Cezanne, Lautrec, Modigliani, Chagall, Kandinsky ,etc. Currently there is an exhibition of drawings, prints and paintings of American contemporary artist Alex Katz.

At the exit of the museum, on the terrace café, I enjoyed the view on the city and the taste of coffee. Later, I went down the wide white steps and suddenly I am in front of glass and metal building where House of butterflies (Palmenhaus) is located. There you can enjoy their beauty while you let them land on your head or hands. I’m stepping from the white marble pavement onto the grass-covered ground of Burggaten Park. The freshness of the air and the rest are pleasurable. As a master of the park, the white figure of Mozart rises.

Following the Burgring I pass by Maria-Theresien Platz, and made a note in my mind to visit it tomorrow, as well as the Museum Quarter (Museums Quartier), as I continue to Volksgarten Park. Relaxed people in the park inspire me. Young people are sunbathing, lying on the grass, appreciating the moment; the elderly are sitting on chairs or benches, reading, talking or simply enjoying the day.

Late afternoon sun reminds me that I need to move on. I walk by the Natural History Museum, the Museum Quarter, and go up Mariahilfer Straße. I advance slowly. The rush and the noise of people around me who are hurrying from store to store, from perfumery to the department stores, from one shop window to another, move me. And, in a second, I’m trying to find new things to buy as well. I continue right up to the end of the street and then a bit more right to Leonardo Hotel where I was staying at. Tired, but satisfied, in a modern designed hotel room, stretched over on a large bed and with a cup of coffee in my hand, I’m making a new plan for tomorrow’s walk through Vienna.
